Bio:
Scott Bearden, 2018, Assistant Professor and Director of Choral Activities (tenure
track), BM-Central Michigan University, MM-Manhattan School of Music.
Scott Bearden was the First Prize Winner as well as Audience Favorite in the 2008
Irene Dalis Vocal Competition. In 2007, Mr. Bearden was the winner of the 2nd Chester
Ludgin American Verdi Baritone Competition in front of a jury made up in part by Placido
Domingo, Mignon Dunn, and Maestro Julius Rudel.
Mr. Bearden continues to impress audiences and critics alike with his portrayals of
the heavier baritone roles of the Italian repertoire. His 2013 season has seen, most
recently, a return to his signature role, with great acclaim, as the title character
in Verdi’s Falstaff with Opera San Jose. The season began with performances of Jack
Rance in La Fanciulla del West with Knoxville Opera and continued with an appearance
at the Sanibel Island Music Festival, and performances as Satan in a jazz opera, Omnia
ad dei Gloriam, as part of the New York Music Theater Festival.
The summer of 2011 included appearances of Caramoor Festival in New York as Dick Deadeye
in H.M.S. Pinafore and Gesler in Guillaume Tell. Other recent performances have included
Fidelio (as Don Pizarro in Mr. Bearden’s first foray into the German repertoire) with
Opera Boston, La Traviata with Mercury Opera, Falstaff with Toledo Opera, La Traviata
with Fremont Opera, I Pagliacci with Knoxville Opera, and Maria di Rohan with the
Caramoor Festival.
